Warped

So how bad is the fabric collection?  Well, it spans 100 lbs of tie silk, as previously mentioned, which does not include the silk that is not tie silk.  Then there is the wool, the velveteen, the linen…

the cedar chestThe fabric lives in the drawers illustrated previously.  Some of it lives in the cedar chest my father made me. The cedar chest hides under at least a week’s worth of clothes I have neglected to hang up or put away, but it is a beautiful cedar chest and inside it, silk purchased by a friend on a trip to the Orient, among other bits of wool purchased in the Fabric District, NYC.

the closet fabricThen there is the closeted fabric, which is stuffed onto a wire shelf in my equally-disorganized walk-in closet.  Here we have some NYC linen in a shade of blue reminiscent of the winter sky at dusk.  There is a swath of red cotton eyelet, some white cotton eyelet, a silk plaid with no real body to it, red flannel, gray wool…  I might as well quit while I am ahead.

Who knows what is currently up in the attic.  That may be a project for next weekend…

Norma would be proud.  I, however, really ought to consider selling some of it on ebay.  After all, much of it I have no intention of ever cutting.  I just want it for the simple pleasure of opening a door and rediscovering a cutting that slides across my skin like water.
